Physical Therapy
Individualized Care provided by Experts in Pelvic Health

At Sana, treating pelvic floor disorders is our specialty. Our Doctors of Physical Therapy have extensive pelvic health training so you can be confident that you are receiving the most research-based, up-to-date care available. As both pelvic health and orthopedic specialists, we take a functional and holistic approach to treatment with advanced training in working with women and men throughout their lifespan.

Your evaluation on your first visit includes: a thorough history of your condition, a pelvic floor assessment, a functional screening, and an orthopedic exam in related regions in your body to identify what other structures may be contributing to your condition. Your therapist will then work with you and develop a treatment plan specific to your condition.

What is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialty area focusing on evaluating and treating the musculoskeletal and behavioral aspects of conditions within the abdomen and the pelvis. The pelvic floor muscles sit within the pelvis, running from the pubic bone to the tailbone and are involved in bladder and bowel dysfunction, sexual function, organ support and postural stability. These muscles work together with the deep abdominal muscles, low back muscles and respiratory diaphragm to play a key role in spine and pelvis support and stability throughout all aspects of movement.

Conditions We Treat:
What to Expect:
All of your sessions will be with a licensed physical therapist, one-on-one for an hour. Your therapist will never pass you to an aide or assistant or leave you to treat another patient. Our private treatment rooms provide a calming environment and our providers will recommend an examination and treatment approach for you that will be based on current research and best practice guidelines. Your physical therapist will provide you with a sustainable program as you progress with your care, so your problems remain in the past.
Coverage & Cost:
We accept insurance for physical therapy. We are in-network with certain insurance plans and out-of-network with others. Deductibles, Co-pays and Co-insurance vary according to plan coverage — we are happy to find out what your particular plan covers. Your financial responsibility will be discussed with you prior to your first visit.
Direct Access: If you are using your health insurance to pay for Physical Therapy, a doctor's prescription is required.
New York is what is known as a "direct access" physical therapy state. This means patients in New York who need physical therapy can now go directly to their physical therapist without having to wait to receive a referral from a physician, greatly reducing the time it takes to begin restorative treatment. You are allowed to directly access the services of a physical therapist for 10 visits or for a period of 30 days, which ever occurs first. You will need to fill out some paperwork before we get started. We will email this to you or you can arrive a few minutes early to complete it.
